Do you love Penang’s oceans and beaches? Then help to keep them clean!
Loving your country means keeping it clean – and sometimes that involves picking up after others.
So we got a group together to help pick up the slack.
Volunteers gathered on the south-eastern shore of Penang Island early in the morning to help.
The area we targeted was a stretch of beach just under the Penang Second Bridge, which thankfully isn’t frequently by the public often, although it is easily accessible from the highway. A lot of the litter here appears to have washed ashore from other parts of the island, such as the nearby Queensbay Mall beachfront and surrounding islands.
This is what we were faced with – litter strewn all along the beach, and a lot of it having been washed up into the rocky banks and in between the cracks.
While the situation wasn’t overly dire, it was still not a pretty sight.
After toiling tirelessly for over two hours, the volunteers managed to dial it down on the unsightly plastic bags, glass bottles and other non-biodegradable wastes.
Here’s a little victory video for kicks:
If you spot any areas in your hood in need of some tender loving clean up care, please let us know. We’d be happy to work with you to make our country a cleaner and happier place.
