Hey, here’s a video of the Carpet Hill climb for you!
That was basically a TL;DR for you. I suppose if you’re still interested, you can scroll through the gallery below.
There is a fabled mountain trail in the heart of Penang – the locals call it Carpet. The Carpet Hill climb is a popular trip that many cyclists and hikers take.
If you want to go there, you gots to start from deep within Sungai Ara. Use the Zan Pavillion as a landmark, and head north from there.
The entrance is an inconspicuous lane wedged between two housing estates.
By warned, the ascent is steep:
It certainly is very lush and green.
Beware of motorised traffic though – especially during fruit season.
The path is maintained by a number of volunteers that tend to the orchards or live along the hillside.
You’ll know you’ve reached the peak once you happen upon a verdant, green field that is flat (compared with the rest of the darn hill)!
The view isn’t superb, but decent enough.
There’s also some nice amenities to relax, and some companions to cheer you up!
Be careful on the descent, as the roads are narrow and very bumpy at times. The most nerve-wracking part is running into fellow cyclists or cars along a thin stretch.
Keep your wits about you, and your fingers tensed around the brakes (use both equally at the same time), and you should survive the Carpet Hill climb.

Here’s a final little furry face for you.
